Boreal Owl

Aegolius funereus

The boreal owl is somewhat darker and slightly larger than the saw-whet, with a pale beak and chocolate-brown colouring. It can also be distinguished from the saw-whet by its call - a series of hoo notes - and by its preference for roosting close to the trunk of the tree.
