Whip-poor-will

Caprimulgus vociferus

With its wide mouth, this dull-coloured bird of the nightjar family is especially good at catching flying insects at night. Its familiar call of whip-poor-will is often heard on summer evenings, and it is found throughout the season in the southern regions Canada, eastward from Manitoba.
