Tufted Puffin

Fratercula cirrhata

Present all along the Pacific coast of Canada, both genders of this large (38cm) puffin develop a colourful beak and yellow head tufts while breeding. At other times of the year, and when young, the tuften puffin is a duller grey-black shade. This puffin spends its winter far out in the open pacific.
