Harlequin Duck

Histrionicus histrionicus

This small duck, which emits a high-pitched squeaking call, spends much of its life along the rocky coasts of western and eastern Canada. At nesting time, however, the harlequin heads inland up streams and rivers. This duck is distinguishable by its steep forehead, short bill and rounded head.
