Scarlet Tanager

Piranga olivacea

The breeding-season male of this species is a brilliant red, with black wings and tail. As the summer wears on, however, the male will molt, developing a blotchy red and progressively yellow colouration. By winter, this bird is olive yellow with black wings and tail.
