White-Top Aster

Aster curtus

This small perennial is restricted to Vancouver Island. Its habitat includes gently-rolling meadows and stands of garry oak. Habitat destruction has eliminated almost all sites outside of parks or ecological reserves and urban development is an ongoing threat. Fire supression is also a limiting factor as it allows other species to expand at the detriment of white-top asters.
