Mosquito Fern

Azolla mexicana

The Canadian distribution for the mosquito fern is limited to British Columbia. It is a tiny floating plant which occurs in quiet backwaters or in the still waters of oxbow lakes. Many of the locations occur near roadways, hence oil, gas, and other toxic substance spills are a major limiting factor for the plant.
