Shortjaw Cisco

Coregonus zenithicus

Shortjaw ciscoes were once found in lakes Huron, Michigan, Superior and Nipigon, but have now disappeared from lakes Michigan and Huron. Their numbers declined in the 1930's from intensive fishing. Habitat loss and degradation are the main limiting factors for the remaining populations. This species receives no legal protection.
