Grey Whale (Atlantic population)

Eschrichtius robustus

Grey whales are a popular species to observe along the west coast of North America, but in fact these baleen whales once roamed the Atlantic as well. Because they swim slowly and tend to inhabit continental shelves, they were an easy target for the early Basque whalers.
