Large Whorled Pogonia

Isotria verticillata

The large whorled pogonia occurs only in southwestern Ontario.It requires rich, moist, deciduous or mixed forest on sandy soil with a thick leaf litter and lots of humus. Logging activity and collection of specimens are threats to the pogonia. It is protected under the Endangered Species Act.
