Purple Twayblade

Liparis liliifolia

The purple twayblade is an orchid found in southern Ontario. It will not grow in dense shade, thus it depends on disturbances such as natural fires to keep the canopy somewhat open. Loss of habitat to agriculture, use of pesticides, as well as collection by wildflower enthusiasts, are all problems facing the purple twayblade, which receives no protection in Canada.
