Prairie Lupine

Lupinus lepidus lepidus

The prairie lupine is a multistemmed perennial herb, which is found on southeastern Vancouver Island. It is quite rare and is thought to be a short-lived colonizing plant in recently disturbed sites. Habitat destruction due to agricultural and residential development is the main cause of the lupine's decline. There is no legislation in British Columbia for the protection of rare and endangered species.
