Sea Mink

Mustela macrodon

Little is known of this extinct mammal which is believed to have inhabited the rocky coasts and offshore islands of New England north to the Bay of Fundy. The sea mink was twice as large as the well-known American mink, and therefore its pelt fetched a higher price. It was exterminated by about1870, and the last one to be captured was taken from Campobellow Island, New Brunsiock, in 1894.
