Hotwater Physa

Physella wrighti

Hotwater physas have been found only in a short stretch of Alpha Stream, the outlet of Alpha Pool, in Liard River Hotsprings Provincial Park, in far northern British Columbia. The temperature of the two meter wide pool they inhabit ranges from 23 Cto 36 Cyear-round. They are hermaphroditic and die after reproducing, thus creating a complete replacement of generations every year. They are vulnerable to changes to their habitat, such as polluting substances being added to Alpha Pool, or a sudden stop in the flow of the stream from blockage of the outlet of the pool.
