White-headed Woodpecker

Picoides albolarvatus

In Canada, the white-headed woodpecker is found only in British Columbia. The main limiting factor for for the bird is the disappearance of its preferred habitat, mature ponderosa pine forests, which have been heavily logged. This woodpecker is protected and a recovery effort is being made to aid the species.
