Ancient Murrelet

Synthliboramphus antiquus

This murrelet is named for the grey and white markings around its head, especially on the breeding adult. Although it is ocasionally seen inland throughout North America, the ancient murrelet commonly makes its summer home in the northern Pacific Maritime ecozone and spends its winters at sea all along the west coast.
