Chinook salmon

Oncorhynchus tshawytscha

The first Pacific salmon to be introduced in other regions, the chinook has also been one of the most extensively planted salmon. Important in the commercial fishery in their native west coast habitat, chinook are also popular with anglers in the east, where they have been introduced. Chinook have also been used to exterminate "undesirable" species such as smelt from lakes in the east.
