Lace bugs are phytophagous (plant-eating) and feed on herbaceous plants and trees. Feeding can cause a yellow spotting of the leaf. With continued feeding the leaf becomes brown and falls off. Some species can do considerable damage to trees. The dorsal surface of the body is elaborately sculptured in adults. The pronotum often extends over the head like a hood.
