Barrow's Goldeneye

Bucephala islandica

Although somewhat similar to the common goldeneye, Barrow's goldeneye sports more iridescent head feathers and a narrower bill. During the nesting season Barrow's goldeneye frequents lakes and ponds close to the nesting tree. This species avoids water with high levels of salinity. Barrow's goldeneye breeds throughout of British Columbia and parts of Alberta as well as the northern portions of Labrador.
