Northern Pygmy-Owl

Glaucidium gnoma

This small brown or greyish-brown owl is much-harassed by songbirds, who mob together to taunt and drive away this predator. Dark streaks on the back of this owl's neck give the illusion of eyes. The northern pygmy-owl has been known to prey upon birds larger than itself.
