Found off the east and west coasts of Canada in the winter, the common murre comes ashore to nest en masse on rocky cliffs. Some common murres sport a white "bridle" or eye-stripe. The common murre molts in the autumn, giving it a mottled appearance and making it difficult to identify at that time of year.
