Fowler's Toad

Bufo fowleri

Until recently this species was classified as a subspecies of Bufo woodhousei, Woodhouse's toad. Superficially, it is quite similar to the American toad, Bufo americanus. Fowler's toad can be distinguished by its three or more "warts" per dorsal blotch, and its venter is unspotted or has only one spot, while on the american toad's venter, there are many spots. Occasionally, the two species will interbreed where their ranges overlap, producing fertile hybrids.
