Peale's Peregrine Falcon

Falco peregrinus pealei

This suspecies of the well-known peregrine falcon is darker than other peregrines. Peale's peregrine falcon is found on the northwest coast, and despite its colour differences, it still retains the distinctive "helmet" (dark crest and cheek patch) that helps distinguish its species. All peregrines tend to inhabit open wetlands or coasts, and prey upon ducks and seabirds.
