Sowerby's Beaked Whale

Little is known of the beaked whales and Sowerby's beaked whale is no exception. Whatever information exists is due to a few chance run-ins with the ~4.9 metre mammals. They are not as social as other whales, preferring to remain solitary or in groups (pods) of 2-3 whales. It is not known whether these whales migrate but they are not generally considered to be migratory animals. Their diet consists mainly of cephalopods such as squids. Reports suggest that Sowerby's beaked whales are preyed upon by larger carnivorous whales such as orcas. Sowerby's beaked whales are found along the east coast of the north American continent in the North Atlantic Ocean.
