Canada's Species   Species at risk

Grey Fox

Urocyon cinereoargenieus

The grey fox differs from the red fox in its unique habit of climbing trees, jumping easily from one branch to the next. It feeds primarily on small animals like cottontails, woodchucks, and mice, as well as birds, fish, and plants. The bobcat is its only known predator. The grey fox is too rare in canada to be of any commercial value and only reappeared here in the middle of the twentieth century after vanishing for over 300 years.
