Canada's Species   Fungi

Douglas-fir Collybia

Strobilurus trullisatus

This tiny white-capped fungi is found singly or in groups growing upon Douglas fir cones, especially in areas with high humidity. This propensity for moisture helps to explain why the Canadian distribution of this species centres around the southern tip of Vancouver Island and the B Clower mainland. The pinkish rim on its cap and the brownish-yellow stem make this fungi distinguishable from others found on conifer cones.
