Eastern Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina

It is unclear whether there are any native canadian populations of the box turtle, or whether there ever were. While it has recently been spotted sporadically in southernmost Ontario and on Pelee Island in Lake Erie, these sightings may just be errant pets as box turtles are abundant in the US, in the wild and as pets.
