Rove Beetles

Rove beetles are usually black or brown in colour and they can usually be recognized by their slender and elongated shape and the very short elytra (modified front wings that protect the hind wings). Most species of Staphylinidae are predatory both as larvae and adults, but a few feed on fungus.
