The larvae feed on a variety of substances including leaves, fungus, vegetable fibers, wool or hair. The species that feed on wool can be major pests in houses. Tineidae are small moths, usually dull coloured. They have threadlike antennae with a ring of scales on each segment. The adults have short palps and the proboscis is small or absent.
