Golden Paintbrush

Castilleja levisecta

The golden paintbrush is a perennial herb whose range appears to be restricted to grassy meadows on southeastern Vancouver Island and adjacent Gulf Islands. The destruction of grass-dominated meadows is the main limiting factor along with fire suppression and habitat invasion by exotic species. Certain locations are in immediate danger of extinction as there are no laws in British Columbia protecting endangered plants.
