Blue Racer Snake

Coluber constrictor foxii

The blue racer is a large, long and slender snake found in a small area of southern Ontario. The blue racer lives in the open during the summer and hibernates during the winter. It mates during the spring, but egg and young snake mortality is quite high. Road-kill is another serious problem for the blue racer, as it likes to lie on roads during cool weather. Loss of habitat is another problem, and the blue racer is protected under Ontario's endangered species act, with a recovery plan in place.
