Kirtland's Warbler

Dendroica kirtlandii

The Kirtland's warbler is known to breed only in Michigan. Between 1900 and 1978, there were at least 34 records of individual Kirtland's warblers in Ontario. Presumably as a result of the population increase in Michigan, occurrences of the warbler in Ontario have become more frequent, and now average more than one per year. The limiting factors are habitat loss and predation of eggs and young by brown-headed cowbirds.
