Acadian Flycatcher

Empidomax virescens

Despite its name, the Acadian Flycatcher rarely reaches the Maritimes. . It was once common in southern Ontario, nesting in the Carolinian Forest region and in the adjacent Great Lakes Forest zone. The species has been extremely rare in Canada since the mid-1800s, as a result of destruction of the Carolinian Forest. An estimated 41 to 75 pairs were breeding annually in Ontario by the mid-1980s; in 1992 there were only 38 birds reported in Canada.
