Vancouver Island Marmot

Marmota vancouverensis

Due to the extremely limited range of this animal little is known of its habits. When first discovered, it was said to be very wary and literally unapproachable. It is believed that its colouration may cause its increased sense of fear, as its chocolate colored coat contrasts against its rocky habitat, making it easy to spot. As the name would suggest, the Vancouver Island marmot is unique to Vancouver Island. It tends to inhabit the mountainous regions of the Island where it digs its burrows. It is not yet known whether this marmot is a hibernator due a lack of research, but it is assumed that this is the case.
