Canada's Species   Species at risk

Bigmouth Buffalo

Ictiobus cyprinellus

In Canada, the bigmouth buffalo has a wide range from western Ontario through southern Manitoba and central Saskatchewan. In most areas, the numbers are low. The main limiting factor for the species is its reproduction being reliant on spring floods. There is no protection or recovery effort for the bigmouth buffalo.
