Dense Blazing Star

Liatris spicata

Found only in southwestern Ontario, the dense blazing star is a perennial herb that flowers from mid-July to mid-September. It doesn't tolerate shade and is thus usually found in areas that have been disturbed by fire, flooding, drought or grazing. Agricultural and residential expansion are the main threats to the species, which has no specific legal protection.
