Flammulated Owl

Otus flammeolus

The range of the flammulated owl just reaches across the border into British Columbia. It is in this region that the flammulated owl finds the ponderosa pine cavities and old woodpecker holes where it prefers to make its home. This owl is difficult to distinguish from others, but differs in the small size of its ear tufts and the dark colour of its eyes (most other owls have yellow eyes). This is a small owl, reaching only about 17 cm in height.
