Morrison Creek Lamprey

Lampetra richardsoni

The Morrison Creek lamprey is a rare, parasitic form of the widely distributed western brook lamprey. No other varieties of lamprey similar to this one have ever been reported anywhere in the world. It inhabits the Morrison Creek watershed, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Residential development and highway construction are threatening this unique species in its only known location. Nonetheless, it receives no legal protection.
