Wild Hyacinth

Camassia scilloides

In Canada, wild hyacinth is found only in southern Ontario, in Essex County. It grows in deciduous forests and in hawthorn scrubs where the limestone is close to the surface. The plant needs a long growing season, as well as a hot climate which is humid during the spring and dry during the summer. The main limiting factors for this hyacinth are habitat destruction, plant succession, which results in increased shading and the degradation of habitat, grazing and collection.
