Spotted Turtle

Clemmys guttata

Occuring in Southern Quebec and the Great Lakes region, the spotted turtle is normally found in ponds, swamps, marshes, and streams. It is relatively small, measuring a maximum 127mm, and has been known to live as long as 32 years in the wild (42 in capitivty). Because of the low birthrate for the Spotted turtle, any threat such as habitat destruction, roadkill, or capture can have a devastating effect on the population. It may not be captured without a permit, although it is quite common as a pet.
