Broad Beech Fern

Phegopteris hexagonoptera

Several Canadian populations of broad beech fern have disappeared. Remaining locations are in Ontario and Quebec, where the fern inhabits shady areas of beech and maple forests in moist soil. This species is not tolerant of changes in its habitat which practices such as maple sugar extraction create.
