Canada's Species   Species at risk

Mackenzie Hairgrass

Deschampsia mackenzieana

Mackenzie hairgrass is a perennial grass species restricted to the sand dunes on the south shore of Lake Athabasca in northwestern Saskatchewan. Any development in the area, such as cottage-building or mining, would be a serious threat to this species because of its unique habitat requirements and low genetic variablility. It is not currently protected.
