Mountain Dusky Salamander

Desmognathus ochrophaeus

The mountain dusky salamander nests close to springs and other wet areas and may lived under logs or stones during the summer. Feeding mostly on insects and earthworms, individuals can live up to 15 years. Its predators include shrews and snakes, as well as other salamanders. The species is threatened by dramatic changes in the quality and abundance of ground and surface water.
